Flying Pizza is a local chain of pizza joints in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dubbed by its fans as "gourmet pizza in cheap pizza's clothing." Unlike other operations who opt for cheap industrially sourced cheese, the chain's open secret is its use of locally made Bothwell Cheese, a high quality cheese famous across Canada.
I was approached by owner operator of Flying's Jefferson location to create a new look for its brochures and its in store menus, as the location was switching to the use of Digital panels for its menus.
While Flying Pizza's logo may have seemed dated 4 or 5 years ago, a move towards late 80s and early 90s design throwbacks in recent years really places the logo on the cusp of a return to visual currency.
The new unapologetically bold and crispy layout designs based on the logo's vintage colours and bold, simple typography are a perfect pairing to the logo and set the brand up to ease itself into the flowering of 80s and 90s design trends we see alive and well today.
In keeping with the client's needs, the whole menu system is built in Powerpoint, allowing the operators to make changes to prices and toppings.
The brochure, printed in large quantities, would only need updates every so many years, so that was done traditionally in Indesign.
