About Saburo

Saburo Kitchen, located in the downtown Winnipeg's Hargrave Street Market, is latest creation of chef Ed Lam, also known for Yujiro Sushi and Gaijin Izakaya. "Saburo" is japanese for "third son." Saburo has become one of Hargrave's crown jewels, with chef Ed Lam's work receiving positive critical reception in the Winnipeg Free Press not just once but twice. Saburo is now regarded by many in the food community as one of Winnipeg's best spots for Ramen.

Designing a logo.

I was hired to design a new logo for the restaurant, pulling from modern Japanese aesthetics. The resulting design we created is a symbol of bowl and chopsticks with a distinct stylistic S that draws the eye in.

Process

To create the logo, I presented a wide variety of creative ideas based on extended conversations about styles and logos that the client was inspired by.

Final Logo

The final logo was one of the most simple of the concepts, with Atipo Foundry's Cassanet Plus invoking Art Deco and modernist themes.
